According to a survey conducted by SberIndex, shopping habits have changed after COVID mainly among young consumers who occasionally made purchases on the internet even before 2020 They tended to continue shopping online even after all stores had reopened. Consumers who preferred shopping offline before 2019 returned to traditional stores as soon as they opened. The overall effect of COVID on e-commerce has been enormous (the online market grew by RUB 1 trillion or USD 130 billion from April to December 2020), but not all of this growth is sustainable.
Online sales doubled during the pandemic
In June, when the new wave began, consumption fell again. According to Rosstat, online sales accounted for 3.9% of retail sales in Russia in 2020 compared with 2% in 2019, so we can conclude that online sales have doubled during the pandemic.

Moscow holds the largest share of online sales (9.3% of retail sales), followed by Novosibirsk (8% compared to 5.3% in 2019). Online sales accounted for 7.3% of total retail sales in St. Petersburg (up from 4.5% in 2019). According to Sberbank analysis based on international benchmarks,
Russian food e-commerce will grow by 2030 by 46% on average.
Such high growth rates will require scalable solutions for various back-office functions such as accounting, fulfill.
